Mikhail Youzhny outlasted Stanislas Warinka in a marathon four-hour match to earn another trip to the U.S. Open semifinals.

Youzhny, the No. 12 seed, defeated NO. 25 Stanislas Wawrinka, 2-6, 7-6, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3. Youzhny will be playing in his second Open semifinal of his career. He will face the winner of the Thursday night quarterfinal between No. 1 Rafael Nadal and No. 8 Fernando Verdasco.

“All five sets were very close,” Youzhny said. “I didn’t do something special. I wanted to, but maybe I just played a little better than he did.”

Wawrinka, 25, had never gotten past the fourth round of a major previously and his previous career high point was teaming with the better-known Swiss player Roger Federer to win an gold medal in doubles at the 2008 Olympics.
