Ruth goes deep three times

For the only time in his career, Babe Ruth hit three home runs in a game, though the Yankees lost the first game of a doubleheader, 15-7, against the Philadelphia A's in Shibe Park. But Ruth, the most prolific power hitter of his era, had one of his best performances, going 3-for-4 with six RBIs. In his fourth at-bat, the lefty slugger decided to bat righthanded. After quickly taking two strikes, Ruth switched back to his usual side of the batter's box, but Jack Quinn struck him out. The Sultan of Swat went 1-for-4 in Game 2 as the Yankees lost, 4-1. Ruth, 35, ended the season hitting .359 with a league-high 49 homers.
