Connecting to the Internet over Wi-Fi hot spots in airports, hotels and cafes is irresistible for travelers. Although banking and other websites are encrypted, sending sensitive information via an unsecured network is risky, says Kelly Davis-Felner of the Wi-Fi Alliance. Often, public hot spots do not have security protections, and "sniffers" may be able to grab and download data.
