Is Steven Slater the Peter Gibbons of the sky?
Unless you've been hiding under a flotation device since Tuesday, surely you've heard about Steven Slater, the JetBlue flight attendant who, fed up with rude passenger behavior and abuse, famously made a dramatic, colorful speech over the plane's public address, grabbed a beer from the galley, opened an emergency exit and slid down an inflatable slide into the sunset on the tarmac at Kennedy Airport.
Though Slater was arrested shortly afterward (something about deploying the chute), he's become something of a cult hero, in a Peter Gibbons sort of way. His profanity-laced address to passengers is being viewed by frustrated employees everywhere as a smashing of the proverbial fax machine. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, go out and rent "Office Space" right now and come back when you're ready to discuss this in a well-informed fashion.
So, what do you think? Is Slater an unprofessional time bomb? Or was he completely justified in indicating he wanted JetBlue to take his job and shove it?
