The Transportation Security Administration’s PreCheck program sends eligible fliers through an expedited airport screening process. Here’s how to apply.

1. Go to tsa.gov/tsa-precheck and click “Apply.” On the application page, scroll down to check your eligibility. If you’re eligible, click on the “Apply online” box, which will take you to a form with basic questions.

2. Make an appointment to visit an application center online or by calling 855-347-8371 (8 a.m.-10 p.m. weekdays).

3. Bring a current U.S. passport or a birth certificate and a photo ID. You’ll be interviewed and fingerprinted. You will also need to pay a nonrefundable $85 application fee with a credit card, money order, company check or certified/cashier’s check.

4. If approved, you will receive a notification letter with a Known Traveler Number (KTN) to include in your flight reservations. A note on your boarding pass will give you access to the TSA PreCheck line at security checkpoints in U.S. airports.

5. For more info, call TSA Customer Service at 866-289-9673 (8 a.m.-11 p.m. weekdays; 9 a.m.-8 p.m. weekends and holidays).
