Easy-to-Carry, Moderately Priced EasyGuides and Classic Day by Day Guides Offer Travel Advice for London, New York, France, Costa Rica, Prague, San Francisco, Boston, Hawaii, and Other Popular Destinations

New York, NY (PRWEB) October 24, 2013

Arthur Frommer, the nation's foremost authority on leisure travel, today announced the relaunch of the Frommer guidebooks, with 30 new travel guides in two formats: 20 EasyGuides, and 10 Day by Day Guides that are available in print and eBook versions. The EasyGuides are readily portable, 256-page books that include a full scale map and retail for $10.95. The classic Day by Day Guides feature the full-color glossy photographs that readers have grown accustomed to and itinerary-based guidance to some of the world's most popular destinations.

Arthur Frommer Media, co-founded by Arthur B. Frommer, who literally invented the modern travel guide with his seminal book, Europe on 5 Dollars a Day, and his daughter, Pauline, a well known and respected travel expert in her own right, earlier this year reacquired the rights to publish the famed guides that bear their names. The travel experts also operate Frommers.com, a highly trafficked website with extensive destination information, deals, and other features, will offer print and electronic versions of 30 different guides that cover the world's most frequently visited places.

"By printing the EasyGuides in black-and-white and making them small enough to carry in your pocket or purse, we were able to drop the price to $10.95 per copy," said Arthur Frommer, the now 84-year-old budget travel guru. "The prices of some guide books have gone well over $25, and we have made a deliberate attempt to lower the cost. It was important to us that we offer something that people can afford. Based on our advance sales, I am confident we will be successful."

The classic Frommer's Day-by-Day Guides ($13.95) will continue to feature 192 pages of tips and advice along with glossy four-color photographs of attractions at the world's most popular travel spots. The nation's foremost authority on leisure travel, Arthur Frommer's travel guides literally shaped the way Americans traveled from the Post-War era through today.

"We examined the marketplace and came to the conclusion that travel guidebooks as a whole had have become too bulky and inundated readers with too much information," said Arthur Frommer. "We are responding to the 21st century marketplace in which travelers want quality information highlighting the most important things to know about a destination, not an encyclopedic volume. Readers have come to rely on us as curators of fully researched travel information in a format that has been proven popular and effective for decades."

"So when you use these new EasyGuides you’ll find extensive information on sightseeing and activities, but recommendations for only the most authentic restaurants and hotels, places that introduce readers to the culture and zeitgeist of the destination," adds Pauline Frommer, publisher of Frommers.com, author of the New York City EasyGuide and co-host of a nationally syndicated radio program with her father. "We wanted these books to cut through the clutter, and introduce readers to experiences that they would only have in these destinations."

During the last 50 years, Frommer's Guides have accounted for one out of every four guides published in the United States. At one point, under previous ownership, 340 guides (both print and online) were produced. Most of the books, particularly the ones that will not be updated in 2014, will be available only in electronic versions.

About Arthur Frommer

The son of a Polish-born mother and an Austrian-born father, Arthur Frommer was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War, but was stationed in Europe because of his fluency in German and Russian. During his service, he wrote and self-published a guidebook called The GI's Guide to Traveling in Europe in 1955 that was an immediate hit among his fellow soldiers. In 1957, Frommer created a civilian version called Europe on 5 Dollars a Day, which became an overnight best seller. He subsequently published guidebooks covering all parts of the globe. Frommer licensed his travel guide book business to Simon & Schuster in 1977.

Eventually, the Frommer's series was purchased by John Wiley & Sons, and in August 2012, Google purchased the travel guides. Through all the exchanges, Arthur Frommer was always deeply involved with the guide books. In 2013, Frommer reacquired control of the guidebooks bearing his name and has come full circle, now self-publishing his iconic travel books again. Additionally, Arthur Frommer writes a travel column syndicated through King Features with his daughter Pauline Frommer, with whom he also co-hosts a weekly syndicated radio show, "The Travel Show with Arthur & Pauline Frommer."
