Now available in open beta for iPhone users, the STAND app enables people to raise money and awareness for causes they care about in the same amount of time it takes to load a picture to Instagram.

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) October 21, 2015

After announcing $2.25M in seed funding in June 2015, STAND the app is now available in open beta for iOS. The app functions as a more meaningful social network, enabling users to search for causes they care about, connect with people who share their interests, and raise money or awareness for issues ranging from climate change to girls’ education, and more.

Modern fundraising usually means that people have to sit down at their desktop to create 'typical' fundraising campaigns that they then pitch to their friends and family. But in today’s on-the-go world, people see or experience things and want to act immediately, whether it’s raising money or awareness, or sharing something they care about. STAND is built to meet the demands of the mobile generation, who are increasingly reliant on smartphones and expect services and tools to keep up with their busy lives - even when it comes to philanthropy. STAND emphasizes the social experience, fostering connections between people who share common values and causes; the campaigns arise from those new and lasting connections.

“We built STAND to make it easy for people to discover and create meaningful connection points with others around the causes they care about - wherever they are, whenever the inspiration strikes,” said Tanya Maslach, vice president of product at STAND. “It’s exciting to hear about how fun and easy it is for users and nonprofits to discover each other. As users create more stands, the biggest potential is for nonprofits, as well. Ones that would’ve never received such word of mouth support will soon be bubbling to the surface as charities people love.”

Using the new STAND app, anyone with an iPhone can choose from over 1.7 million charities and nonprofits across eight major categories to create their own “stand” to raise funds or draw attention to a cause they care about. Stands run from 3-7 days and can be for any amount.

STAND’s unique edge is the way it enables users to support other people as well as charities: people can give money or they can give influence, which mimics how people behave in real life. STAND gives people the power to drive awareness, and charities benefit from a global marketing engine that connects supporters with their mission.

Key features:

  • Search - Users can easily search for a nonprofit charity or an individual STAND across our 8 main categories: Animals, Arts & Culture, Education, Environment, Health, Human Services, Public Benefits, and Faith-Based.
  • Donate - Give what you can via secure mobile-web browser and receive an emailed receipt for your records in seconds
  • Amplify - Sharing, Commenting, Favoriting, Following, & Notifications make the experience as amplified as possible by enabling users to interact with the causes they care about, and the people who support them.

All nonprofits are vetted by Guidestar and the STAND community. Funds go directly to nonprofits via Network for Good, which receives a 4.91 percent processing fee. STAND the company is a for-profit model and receives 3.09 percent.

“We want to leave the world a better place for our children and grandchildren,” said Eric Harr, CEO and co-founder. “But we are at a crossroads: our environment is in trouble, millions of refugees are in peril, billions don’t have access to clean water. We can feel so small up against such big problems. But technology connects us, unites us, and amplifies our power. STAND is a way for people to come together in a simple, fast and delightful way and, through small actions, make a big difference.”

STAND was founded in 2014 by Eric Harr and Tony Daniel, previously founders of the successful grassroots social movement, Make A Stand, which was inspired by Eric’s then eight-year old daughter, Vivienne, and raised $100,000 to help end child slavery. Her cause sparked an important lesson: you don’t have to be big or powerful to change the world, you just need to stand with others for what you believe in.
