'The Bachelor' prince wants to move to Long Island

Prince Lorenzo Borghese, who once tried to find his true love on ABC’s “The Bachelor,” says he wants to move to Long Island. Borghese — a doggy spa mogul and animal advocate — received the real estate royal treatment as he searched the North Shore for a place to call his castle on last week’s season premiere of HGTV’s “Selling New York.”

Borghese, 39, who summered in Centre Island with his grandparents as a child, was looking for a weekend home with the same things most Long Islanders love about the place — proximity to New York City (where he has a midtown apartment) as well as to the water. He also wanted great views and lots of space for a dog to run, he says.

Borghese — who is still a bachelor, by the way, and whose title was bestowed on his ancestors by Pope Paul V— declined to specify his princely price range. “I said, ‘Price doesn’t matter. It’s all about walking in and feeling that it’s right,’” he says. Local luxury broker Shawn Elliott, who was featured in the episode, went to extravagant lengths to give the prince that feeling while showing three North Shore estates from some unconventional angles.

Elliott, president of Shawn Elliott Luxury Homes & Estates, procured a Rolls-Royce Phantom for the first showing — a 3.73-acre Centre Island estate now listed for $6.75 million . The next property was Templeton, the Old Westbury estate owned by New York accessories designer, vegan caterer and animal advocate Cornelia Guest.

“Knowing that it’s a 16-acre property, the best way to see it is from the air,” Elliott says. So he hired a helicopter to show the sprawling $8.9 million estate.

The last property was a Shawn Elliott Luxury Homes & Estates exclusive listing in Lloyd Harbor. The $20 million waterfront home, on just shy of 8 acres, features 25 rooms, an indoor pool and a deep-water dock. What viewers didn’t see was Elliott’s creative approach to the showing. “The best way to see a waterfront property is from the water,” Elliott says. To maximize that experience, Elliott rented an Azimut yacht, an Italian boat he estimates would cost $3.5 million to buy.

But after visiting the properties, Borghese expressed reservations about how large they were. The episode closed with the news that he is still house hunting and has narrowed his search to Centre Island.
