Summer is a great time to catch up on the year's best books, as well as old ones you may have missed in years past. We asked some of our favorite Long Island authors to share their own reading lists.

Michael D'Antonio of Miller Place

LATEST BOOK "A Full Cup: Sir Thomas Lipton's Extraordinary Life and His Quest for the America's Cup" (Riverhead, $26.95)

WHAT HE'S READING "Empire of the Summer Moon" by S.C. Gwynne

HE SAYS "It's a tribal history of the Comanches. One of the things I really like about it is he doesn't present any of the cliches we might be familiar with."

Susan Isaacs of Sands Point

LATEST BOOK "As Husbands Go" (Scribner, $25)

WHAT SHE'S READING Stephen King's "On Writing"

SHE SAYS "It's fabulous. It's somewhere between a manual and a memoir. He's such a wonderful writer."

Michael Atkinson of Centerport

LATEST BOOK "Hemingway Cutthroat" (Minotaur, $24.99)

WHAT HE'S READING Peter Matthiessen's "Shadow Country," "The Plot Against America" by Philip Roth, stories by P.G. Wodehouse

HE SAYS "I'm not a big beach-read person; the better the book is, the more you forget you are on the beach. Maybe the intention is to bring lousy books to the beach so you never forget where you are."

Hilary Thayer Hamann of Sag Harbor

LATEST BOOK "Anthropology of an American Girl" (Spiegel & Grau, $26)

WHAT SHE'S READING "The French Lieutenant's Woman," by John Fowles, and several plays, including Oscar Wilde's "The Importance of Being Earnest."

SHE SAYS "I would love to write a few plays, so I'm attracted to the form. They're dialogue-driven, so I find it to be a good way to retrain my ear to dialogue, and just rediscover the possibilities of dialogue."

Jen Calonita of Merrick

LATEST BOOK "Secrets of My Hollywood Life 5: Broadway Lights" (Poppy, $16.99)

WHAT SHE'S READING "Eat, Pray, Love" by Elizabeth Gilbert, "Something Borrowed" by Emily Giffin, "She's So Dead to Us" by Kieran Scott, "Only the Good Spy Young" by Ally Carter, "Insatiable" by Meg Cabot

SHE SAYS "I like to laugh and smile when I read, so those are the books I gravitate toward. There's so much hard, serious stuff going on in the world."
