Jeremy Allen White is one good skater as far as the folks who run The Rinx at Harborfront Park in Port Jefferson are concerned. The Emmy Award-winning star of the FX series "The Bear" has hit the ice at the skating rink twice in the past 10 days — first on Dec. 22 and again on Tuesday along with his mother and his daughters, Ezer, 7, and Dolores, 5.

"He was staying in the Bellport area and he was looking online at different places to go ice skating and said our rink looked the nicest," said Tom Palamara, director of the outdoor rink, which is owned by his father, also named Tom. "He couldn't have been nicer."

White, who recently earned a Golden Globe nomination for playing Bruce Springsteen in the biopic "Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere," also took time to pose for photos after skating. "The first night he was there I asked him if he'd take a photo. I said we’re a small family business and this would be huge for our social media," Palamara said in a phone interview. "He was very into helping us out."

Palamara was right about the impact the picture would have. Since posting an image of himself with White on The Rinx's Instagram account on Monday, it has had more than 50,000 views and 2,400 likes. "This is probably the biggest Instagram post we'll ever have," Palamara said.

Several members of the Rinx crew, including the venue's manager, Connor McNally, also got to have their photo taken with White when he came back on Tuesday. "He was super nice about it and everyone was super excited to see him," said McNally, who admitted that he wasn't familiar with White but will now start watching "The Bear" after meeting him.

One missed photo op was catching White while he was skating, though Palamara said he had some cool moves on the ice: "He was very good. He could skate with his kids and I caught him going backward. He clearly has had skates on before. I was very impressed."

White's appearance at The Rinx has also turned Palamara into something of a celebrity since that Instagram post. "I do yoga," he said, "and when I came in on Tuesday, the girl at the front desk said 'I’ve been waiting all day to see you.' "

White did not reply to Newsday's request for a comment.
