Matt Lauer, wife deny rumors of split
Reports have been swirling online that Matt Lauer and his wife, Annette Roque, are living apart after Roque accused him of cheating on her while covering the Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
However, the "Today" show co-host and his wife of 12 years are denying the reports to People magazine.
"I am living in my apartment with Annette and my children as a family and a couple," Lauer told the magazine Thursday from France, where he's been co-anchoring the NBC morning show from the Cannes Film Festival. "I have never moved out. I am not moving out. There is no truth to that."
Roque also spoke to the magazine, saying: "Out of self-respect, I want to stand up for our family and protect them."
The National Enquirer had reported that Lauer, 52, cheated with at least two women while he was covering the Olympics. Lauer denied the allegation, but the magazine said he moved out of the couple's Manhattan home two months ago.
The magazine even said Roque's mother confirmed that Lauer vacated the family apartment.
Lauer and Roque were briefly separated in 2006, when Roque filed for divorce while pregnant with their third child, Thijs (Dutch for "Matt"), now 3. Their other children are Jack, 8, and Romy, 6.
Lauer acknowledges past difficulties in his marriage, but says all is well now.
"Have we had a completely perfect, easy marriage? No. But the stories you've read over the years are not true," Lauer told People.
"I don't think we're any different than any married couple that's been together for 12 years," he adds. "The accusations [of infidelity] are ridiculous and I'm not going to [dignify] them with an answer. It's not true."
Rumors of discord initially arose when the couple did not spend Valentine's Day together in Vancouver, and Lauer remained in that city after "Today" production ended and the crew had returned to New York.
