Michelle McGee has received intense criticism for her alleged affair with Sandra Bullock's husband, Jesse James, but one person is still standing behind her - her father.

Denny McGee, a barber in Ohio, spoke to the local Fox affiliate and said that James, 40, had told McGee that he and Bullock, 45, were separated, Us Weekly reports.

"[James said], 'They have a thing now where they kind of live apart and she's on the scene for movies and stuff, and I'm here in San Diego,' " Denny McGee said.

He also said his daughter decided to come forward after seeing James and Bullock at the Oscars together.

"She was under the impression they weren't seeing each other. She felt [betrayed] . . . she felt like she was going to have a relationship and this happened and she was mad," he said.

Michelle McGee, 32, allegedly was paid $30,000 to sell her story, according to Us Weekly.

Since then, "I don't think she's had contact with Jesse James," Denny McGee said. "I don't think they're on speaking terms right now."

A source close to Bullock and James told the magazine that news of the affair "ruined" Bullock's life.

As for Michelle McGee, "She's doing great," her father said. "She's in seclusion right now. I'm all concerned . . . she's cool with it, [saying], 'We're gonna make it through this good.' "

Asked if he would have anything to say to James, Denny McGee responded, "I wouldn't want to say anything to him. I don't have anything against Jesse personally. He's a hardworking guy who built up his business. I just wish he'd been honest with my daughter from the beginning so this never would have happened."
