While on ‘Today,’ Hamlin, Rinna learn of burglary
Harry Hamlin and wife Lisa Rinna were live on the “Today” show Tuesday morning promoting their respective new books and new joint reality show, when reality took over.
Hamlin took a cell-phone call on live TV, which informed him that Rinna’s boutique in suburban Los Angeles was being burgled.
“I have to keep my cell phone on,” he warned hosts Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford, noting that Rinna’s boutique in Sherman Oaks, Calif., Belle Gray, “is being robbed as we speak.”
His phone then rang, and he informed the two, “I’m getting the call right now, which is going to tell me what’s going on.”
The Los Angeles Daily News said the burglary was reported about 6:20 a.m. California time when manager Rona Argana arrived to open the business.
The call Hamlin took on the show came just under an hour later.
“I called Harry on the air,” Argana told the paper. “I didn’t even know they were doing the ‘Today’ show.”
“They took piles from the first two racks,” Hamlin, 58, said, adding no one had been hurt.
Rinna, 47, said it was the third time the 7-year-old shop had been robbed.
“This is our life and this is what our show is about,” she chimed in, taking the opportunity to plug their TV Land series, “Harry Loves Lisa,” which premieres Thursday.
Hamlin was noticeably irritated at his alarm company, claiming they “did nothing.”
The robbery also stole the spotlight from Rinna’s revelation to Meredith Vieira earlier on “Today” Tuesday that on Aug. 26 she’d had surgery to reduce the size of her upper lip.
The former “Melrose Place” star — known for her lips like Cindy Crawford for her mole — had revealed last year that in 1986 she’d had a silicone injection on the upper lip, which she said had since grown “bumpy and uneven.”
