Say ole! Matador Records hits 21 in Vegas
In this case, what happens in Vegas better not just stay there.
New York's Matador Records will celebrate its 21st anniversary in style in Las Vegas, bringing many of the indie label's biggest stars together for a three-day festival starting Oct. 1.
That includes a reunion of the "classic lineup" of lo-fi pioneers Guided by Voices - singer Robert Pollard, guitarists Tobin Sprout and Mitch Mitchell, bassist Greg Demos and drummer Kevin Fennell - for the event. It's the lineup of the Dayton, Ohio, band that released the classics "Bee Thousand" and "Alien Lanes."
Word is that this version of Guided by Voices may tour after the "Matador at 21" festival, though no new dates have been announced. Also set for Matador's party are artists Pavement, Sonic Youth, Belle & Sebastian, Superchunk and Spoon, all of whom released albums on the label.
