Taylor Swift unveils new single 'Shake It Off,' '1989' album details

Taylor Swift is pop now, y’all.

The country-pop superstar unveiled her new single “Shake It Off” and its video on a show live-streamed by Yahoo and ABC News Monday afternoon, as well as details on her “first official pop album,” named “1989” and set for an Oct. 27 release.

And true to Swift’s word, “Shake It Off” is pure dance pop, which she co-wrote and co-produced with Max Martin and Shellback, who also teamed with her on the smash hits “I Knew You Were Trouble” and “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” from her previous album “Red.”

“We decided to get back together – to work together,” Swift told an audience of hand-picked fans. “That was a terrible joke.”

Swift said the goal of the collaboration was to create something that sounded like nothing the three of them had ever done, adding that “1989,” named for the year she was born, was inspired by late-‘80s pop and its “time of limitless potential.”

Swift said she also wanted to write about her dealings with rumors and criticisms. “People can say whatever they want about us at any time and we can’t control that,” she said. “The only thing we can control is our reaction to it. I figure we have only two options. You can either let it get to you… You can descend into insanity if you want. Option Two: You can just shake it off.”

Swift is set to perform at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday and is expected to deliver “Shake It Off” live for the first time on television.
