'Rocky Horror Picture Show' with Tim Curry coming to The Suffolk

Tim Curry, the "Rocky Horror Picture Show" star who died on Tuesday, lives on thanks to his iconic role as Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the 1975 cult movie favorite. In tribute to the actor, The Suffolk in Riverhead announced Thursday that will host two screenings of the film on Halloween.

Fans are encouraged to dress up for the Oct. 31 showings at 8 p.m. and midnight. The theater plans to have prop bags for purchase, specialty cocktails, a costume contest and a shadowcast featuring members of the troupe Zen Productions. Tickets are $35-$45 and can be purchased at thesuffolk.org.

"The Rocky Horror Picture Show" tells the story of a young couple, Brad (Barry Bostwick) and Janet (Susan Sarandon), who stumble upon a gloomy castle one dark and stormy night. There, they find Curry's mad doctor, who has created Rocky, the perfect muscle man. And things really get weird as characters are killed, romance ensues and everyone does the "Time Warp."

The movie was especially embraced by Long Islanders back in the 1970s, when midnight screenings took place every weekend at the Uniondale Mini Cinema up until the venue closed in 1981.

In addition to the movie, a stage version titled "The Rocky Horror Show" has been a hit on Broadway since opening in April.
