'The Voice' recap: Chris Mann still shines

“The Voice” entered its live show phase last night, which, to be honest, is when it goes from something fresh and interesting to something a little more ordinary, as the audience votes to keep their favorites. Luckily, there's plenty of talent to keep up the suspense.
At this stage, each mentor's team continues to do battle within its own ranks. The six singers on the team perform and the top three vote-getters automatically advance. Each mentor then picks one of the bottom three to advance.
This was an uneven week for Blake Shelton's team and the responsibility for that falls at his boots. His support for Erin Willett helped her deliver a first-rate version of Stevie Wonder's “Living for the City.” It also helped encourage RaeLynn to turn Maroon 5's poppy “Wake Up Call” into a murderous country song and Charlotte Sometimes to turn Paramore's emo “Misery Business” into an Adele ballad – both brilliant moves for the singers.
Unfortunately, he did no favors to Jermaine Paul by saddling him with Bon Jovi's “Livin' on a Prayer,” especially when the register was set too high for his voice and left him with nowhere to go at the end. He also discouraged Naia Kete from doing a reggae version of Adele's “Turning Tables,” which would have helped her better disguise the fact that her voice isn't as strong as Adele's. And as strong as Jordis Unga's delivery was on “Alone,” she didn't do much to separate it from Heart's original.

Naia Kete, “Turning Tables”
The surprise was the strong showing from Lindsey Pavao, whose interesting voice paired nicely with Gotye's “Somebody That I Used to Know” and may make her a contender, alongside the ever-improving Moses Stone, who showed that his vocals may soon match his rapping and his stage prowess.
Too bad the same can't be said for Sera Hill who struggled with Drake's “Find Your Love,” messing up the odd arrangement and having her interact with the shirtless male dancers hurt her chances. Ashley De La Rosa had a weird song choice and weird harmony vocals to give her a weird performance that ended up being a bit shouty.
