Duggars ready to try for child No. 20
The TLC series "19 Kids and Counting" may have to change its name soon, as it has twice already since premiering in 2008. That's because husband-and-wife stars Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar are actively considering adding another child to their brood.
Following 19th child Josie Brooklyn's touch-and-go recovery from a premature birth via emergency Caesarean section in December and months in the hospital for a perforated bowel and other problems, the Arkansas couple said they're ready to go again.
"Our family is stronger than ever," Jim Bob Duggar, 45, told People magazine in its new issue, on newsstands Friday. "We made it through the storm."
That storm included a move to Little Rock, Ark., about 200 miles from their home in Tontitown, to be closer to Josie, who was hospitalized at Arkansas Children's Hospital. Just days after being released in April, Josie was rushed back to the hospital when her vital signs dropped. The Duggars were able to take her home to Tontitown at the end of June.
"When she first came home, I couldn't sleep at all," says Michelle Duggar. "That was the scariest part for me, having the full responsibility of her care on my shoulders. . . . It was intimidating."
Michelle Duggar's age, 43, could make another pregnancy risky and her history of preeclampsia, the pregnancy-induced high blood pressure that helped lead to Josie's premature birth, could further endanger her health, as well as another child's.
But the devout Baptist couple say they want to press ahead regardless. "People think we are overpopulating the world," Jim Bob Duggar said. "We are following our convictions."
