Usually at the beginning of the year you will receive a flyer with a list of all the clubs and forms or where to get them to sign up. If your school has an art club, that is one you should join. You can even get a head start on it by going to an art camp this summer. I’ve done it and I have no regrets!

Here are my top reasons why it is so good for me:

n It’s a great chance to learn more about art.

nThere are tons of fun arts and crafts you can bring home and show off to your family

n They make great gifts!

n You can improve your art skills in a group of people just like you.

n Your school might have a NYSATA program like mine does (New York State Art Teachers Association). It’s where you can have five pieces of art judged by state judges.

n It’s an opportunity to make new friends. If you’re new to a school, join the art club so you can make friends you know you have something in common with. If your friends are in the art club, too, you can talk to them without disrupting class.

n It just might help you later in life if you can write on your resume that you were in art club every year.

n It’s good to try something new once in a while. If you’ve never really tried art, you might find you’re good at it. Who knows? You might be the next Picasso.

n And last but not least: It’s fun! It’s great to end a stressful day and vent your emotions through art. That way you’ll come home ready to do your homework without any drama.
