Kidsday: Singer-actress Victoria Justice

We met our favorite actress, Victoria Justice, when she was in Manhattan recently.

What is the craziest thing a fan has ever done?

I don't know. I went on tour last summer and the fans were amazing. And there were people that would just like wait around when they knew I was going to be at a certain place. I don't know. I guess the craziest thing, they also gave me so many gifts on tour. They put so much effort into, like, these scrapbooks and making things for me. It was so sweet and thoughtful. I don't know if that's crazy so much, but it's really, like, sweet and generous.

Are you planning on continuing this career your whole life?

I would like to think so, yeah. I love making movies. So I would love to do all different types of movies like a great drama, a romantic comedy, an action movie. Like, I really want to dabble in everything. And I also love music. I've been writing my own music since I was 16 for my album and I'm putting out my first single next year and releasing the full album. So I'm really excited for that and I can't wait to tour again. You'll have to come to one of the concerts -- they're really fun. I'm definitely a super-creative person, I love performing and playing characters, so I definitely would like to stay in the entertainment industry, and one day start getting behind the camera as well. I would like to produce my own films and whatever else it is that I'm interested in.

What do you like to make better -- movies or television shows?

It's really hard to choose. They're really different. television show is something that, hopefully if it does well, it goes on for a long period of time. You do, like, several seasons of that, and then a movie is just a one-time thing where, unless there are sequels, where you shoot for, like, a couple of months straight. So it's just different. Filming "Victorious," there wasn't a live audience, but there was a laugh track that would play. Being on a sitcom, it's all about, like, the jokes and the comedic timing. It's more about the real person and the character and becoming that person. So they're two totally different things. But they're both a lot of fun. I really enjoy doing them both.

If you could meet anyone in the world that you never met, who would that be?

I would love to meet Paul McCartney. I'm a huge Beatles fan. They're such a legendary band and I think he's super-talented, a great songwriter, and I love his work with John Lennon -- that would just be like incredible.

Do you have any pets, and, if yes, what are their names?

I do. I have two dogs. Their names are Sammy and Sophie. They're brother and sister and chonzers. They're half bichon and half schnauzer. They're really cute. Sophie's bigger then Sammy even though they were born at the same time, but she's a lot, like, plumper. She's, like, the chunky one and Sammy is, like, super-bony. He's, like, the runt of the litter and he's super-cuddly and they're, like, white and adorable.

Do you miss your privacy or is it fun to be recognized?

It's fun to be recognized. There are some days, because I'm only human, so sometimes when I get sick or . . . there are sometimes when I don't feel like being recognized, but most of the time I like it. I always love meeting the fans and I'm always happy to take a picture, or sign an autograph or whatever makes them happy. Without them I wouldn't be here. I go to pretty extreme lengths to make sure that my fans are happy.

When you were younger, what else did you want to be besides an actress?

I use to say I want to be a marine biologist. I grew up by the ocean, I'm a Pisces, I always loved the water and fish and that sort of thing. I think that's mainly what I would say.

What is the funniest or weirdest thing you had to do as an actress?

I've done a lot of weird things on "Victorious" and a lot of fun things too. In one episode I had to get tackled by a man in a gorilla suit. That was weird and I had to, like, fight him. There was an episode where I got dragged by a leash by a dog across the gym floor, by this St. Bernard, I think it was. It was, like, this huge dog and I had wheels on my back, but the camera couldn't see that. But that was crazy. I've done so much on "Victorious."

So many people look up to you. Do you like being a role model or do you think it's too much pressure?

No, I enjoy being a role model. I think it's an honor in a lot of ways. It's very flattering. There have to be people to fill that void for young girls and teenage girls and whoever. And I'm happy to do that. It's really sweet, and it always, likes, melts my heart and is very flattering. Just very endearing, and it really makes me smile.

Did you ever give ideas for the show "Victorious"?

Yeah, there have been times where I will pitch ideas for fun or I'll pitch a line and it would make it in the show, but they're pretty strict about our writers and the creator of the show, Dan Schneider. They like to run the show and they don't really, I don't know, they're pretty strict about saying each line the way it's written and that sort of thing, but there are moments where I get little things in there.

Is being famous everything you wanted and expected it to be?

I don't think I've ever expected to be famous. I moved out to L.A. wanting to act and I also love music, and I've been singing and performing my entire life. I think I was just really focused and hardworking, and I think I was totally focused on that and never thought about being famous and that sort of thing. I think a lot of people that get super-famous, like, having paparazzi following them all the time -- I don't have that and I am really grateful for that because that's no way to live a normal life, and I feel that's, like, a lot of pressure, so I'm glad to be living my life the way that I do right now.

Do you have a crush on Beck from the show "Victorious"?

No, I think he's a really good-looking guy and I think he's adorable, and I can understand how other girls would, but we've been friends for years now. We did a Nickelodeon original movie together called "Spectacular" and that's where we first met, in Canada. We kind of bonded and we were the two people in the film that were the youngest. So we spent a lot of time hanging out with each other and, yeah, we just became really good friends and he's like a brother to me.

Would you trade your life for anyone else's?

No. I like my life right now. I feel really lucky to be able to do what I love and I worked hard to get to the point that I'm at in my career right now. I still have ultimate goals and I'm very ambitious about lots of other things. I feel like everything is happened for a reason, and I'm in the place I'm meant to be, and, yeah, I love my family, I love my dogs. I like everything just the way it is.

Do you watch yourself on TV?

Yeah, when there's a new episode of "Victorious." I definitely love to tune in because I think they're hilarious and to see how it all comes together. So, yeah, I definitely check it out from time to time. Whenever I get a chance, whenever I'm not working.
