It’s 1970-something and your sister’s being thrown a surprise party. All her pals await her arrival, gathered in the furnished basement on the stairs, against the brick wall, or—oh, no, don’t let dad see—leaning on the stereo hi-fi cabinet. You watch from a corner, ready to tattle (or join in) if anyone decides to break into the wet bar. That was the vibe at the Alice + Olivia show Tuesday night in Chelsea. Designer Stacey Bendet offers handkerchief hems, bell-bottoms, a sparkly tank with knickers and a fun graphic, A-line shift—and now shoes: chunky open-toed sandals and boots. Your sister never shows, but Amanda Blank and the Pierces (who performed live) get this funky, flea-market crowd rocking.
