Asian restaurants sometimes do make side trips. Here are four where your East-West tour will be first-class.

KASHI SUSHI & STEAK222 Sunrise Hwy., Rockville Centre, 516-442-7600

Lots of spirited sushi is served at Kashi. But you also can dig into fine Kobe beef meatballs, roasted duck with a lime-mint-hoisin reduction, lobster-and-tomato bisque, and a crabcake with mustard, shallot and sweet mayo sauce. The original Kashi is in Huntington.

WEST EAST ALL NATURAL BISTRO & WINE BAR758 S. Broadway, Hicksville, 516-939-6618

The remade West East Bistro balances good pot stickers and sushi rolls with Painted Hills grass-fed beef and macaroni-and-cheese enriched with lobster; Malaysian red curry and coconut curry with Buffalo-style shrimp and whole branzino.

TING, 92 E. Main St., Huntington, 631-425-7788

Ting is all over the map, with excellent results. Tuna pizza meets tuna tartare; miso soup competes with butternut squash soup; Beijing duck and chargrilled filet mignon with pureed potatoes are quite a pair. The variation on chicken Soong adds jicama.

KAJI SUSHI AND LOUNGE, 935 Franklin Ave., Garden City, 516-500-9510

The latest and sharpest in a wavelet of Japanese restaurants cresting on Long Island, Kaji is a very good spot for sushi. The sleek and modern design accents their artful dishes perfectly. Kaleidoscopic sushi rolls and over-the-top combos are just a few options you can choose at this busy restaurant.
