Burger King continues its mash-up series with Mac n’ Cheetos, pasta-filled cheese sticks that boasts the puffed snacks from Frito-Lay as the golden ingredient.
With five pieces to an order, Mac n’ Cheetos will be available for $2.49 starting June 27 at Burger King nationwide, including those on Long Island.
The portable pasta sticks have a distant culinary precedent in street foods like Naples’ frittatine di pasta, a fritter filled with bucatini, bechamel, mozzarella and ham. In this case, mozzarella is replaced by processed cheese and meat is swapped out for Chester Cheetah’s favorite treat.
Burger King’s Mac n’ Cheetos debut arrives on the heels of its comparatively low-key Whopper Dog run followed by the Whopperito — a Whopper in a burrito — that made national news when it was tested in Hermitage, Pennsylvania.
The relentless rollouts of Instagram-friendly mash-ups point to an unabating fast-food slugfest between McDonald’s, Starbucks, Subway and Burger King — the most profitable fast food restaurants of 2015.
