Xarello, Williston Park’s ambitious, modern-Mediterranean restaurant, has closed six months after it opened. In its place, owners John Alexopoulos and Claudio Peralta will be opening a Greek restaurant, Taverna 38.

“Xarello was not drawing a broad enough crowd,” Alexopoulos said. “Taverna 38 will be more casual, less expensive, with a bigger menu and takeout.”

Xarello’s chef, Katia Iris Ramirez Malave, whose food received one star from Newsday's Peter M. Gianotti, is no longer involved in the kitchen. The new menu will focus on traditional Greek home cooking and seafood.

Taverna 38, slated to open in May, will serve lunch and dinner seven days a week. It will honor Xarello gift cards.
