Roast Sandwich House has opened in the heart of Babylon village, bringing the local chain's number of locations up to six. The artisanal sandwich shop offers house-roasted meats and made-from-scratch soups. Roast first opened in Melville in 2011. Syosset, Mineola, Bellmore and Hicksville locations followed.

Owner Joseph Cordaro said Babylon was one of a few Suffolk hotspots he considered while searching for the chain's next location. "I was looking at Commack, Babylon, Hauppauge," he said.

With seats for about 35, the eatery took three months of renovations to prepare for the opening. It has a modern industrial ambience, with open ceilings, track lighting and tile.

The menu here is largely the same as at the other locations, including fan favorites like tomato bisque soup ($6.95), a tuna salad sandwich ($12.25) and crispy chicken alla vodka sandwich ($17.50) served on a garlic semolina hero. Babylon-specific additions include buffalo mac-and-cheese balls, a steak sandwich and Wagyu patty melt.

Also new in Babylon: a range of canned beer, cocktails and hard seltzer, that will be available once the venue's liquor license is issued. "If it goes well, I can try it at my other locations," Cordaro said.
