Taglio Pizza ranked No. 3 slice shop in U.S.
For the second year in a row, Taglio Pizza has been ranked the No. 3 slice shop in the United States by 50 Top Pizza, an Italian-based online guide. Rob Cervoni, who operates Taglios in Mineola (est. 2018) and Massapequa Park (2025) said "It’s an honor to be on the list with some of the biggest names in the industry, and some of my favorite pizzaiolos."
Cervoni is a regular customer (and fanboy) of L’Industrie in Brooklyn, which snagged the top spot, as well as Mama’s TOO, on the Upper East Side, ranked No. 4. Slice & Pie of Washington D.C., No. 2, is owned by Cervoni’s good friend, Giulio Adriani, whom he called "a legend in Italian American pizza."
Taglio has been a perennial presence on Newsday’s top pizza list since the Mineola store opened in 2018. It specializes in two styles of pizza, Roman-style "pizza al taglio" — baked in rectangular pans and cut with scissors into square slices ("taglio" means "cut") — and round New York pies sold whole or by the slice.
When Cervoni opened the original Taglio, the odds were stacked against him: The little pizzeria around the corner from the LIRR was obscured by the Mineola Boulevard overpass and it’s hard to say whether there was less foot traffic or less parking. But he was a pioneer in a movement that has only gained steam on Long Island, a movement that rejects the mass-market approach to pizza and relies on artisanal techniques and better ingredients.
This year’s slice-shop rankings honored 14 shops, five of which are in the metropolitan area. In addition to slice shops and artisan chains, 50 Top Pizza publishes various rankings of pizzerias by region (Asia-Pacific, Latin America, Europe) and, in the case of Italy and the USA, by country. In the 2024 list of the world’s best pizzerias, Manhattan’s Una Pizza Napoletana was ranked No. 1; Taglio ranked No. 99. The 2025 list will be released on Sept. 8.
