THE BUDGET

The district proposes a $69,306,466 budget for 2016-17, a 0.32 percent decrease from the current $69,531,543. The tax levy would rise by 0.93 percent, from $47,212,895 to $47,652,697.

This increase is equal to the district’s tax-cap limit, so a simple majority is required to approve the budget.

School taxes on an average single-family home would be between $7,800 and $7,900, up from $7,700 to $7,800. The proposed budget includes a 1 percent increase in salaries and a step increase of 2.04 percent for teachers, but no increase in salaries due to teachers obtaining additional education credits.

The budget would cut four teacher assistants and two teacher aides while adding funds for field trips, facilities upkeep and occupational education.

A proposition asks voters to approve expanding bus transportation to school for students at no additional cost to taxpayers.
