THE BUDGET

The district proposes a $147,763,782 budget for 2016-17, a 3.47 percent increase from the current $142,802,333 budget. The tax levy would rise by 1.51 percent, from $108,899,931 to $110,549,481.

This increase is within the district’s tax-cap limit of 1.526 percent, so a simple majority vote will be required to approve the budget.

School taxes on an average single-family home would increase by 1.5 percent, from $4,206 to $4,269.

The district currently is in contract negotiations with its teachers. The proposed budget would add five teacher positions.

A proposition asks voters to approve establishing a $10 million capital-reserve fund for paving and concrete work, track resurfacing, door, floor and ceiling tile replacement, roof work, tennis court refurbishment, electrical and plumbing upgrades and other projects throughout the district’s schools.
