Bellmore school district
VOTING
7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday at Shore Road School.
THE BUDGET
The district proposes a $33,860,373 budget for 2016-17, an 0.83 percent increase over the current $33,582,394. The tax levy would rise by 0.71 percent, from $23,240,242 to $23,404,365.
This increase is within the district’s tax-cap limit of 0.73 percent, so a simple majority vote will be required to approve the budget.
School taxes on the average single-family home would increase by 0.72 percent, from $4,469 to $4,501.
The proposed budget includes a contractual 1.75 percent salary increase and a 1.25 percent step increase for teachers. School programs and staffing would remain at current levels.
A proposition asks voters to authorize the creation of a $3.6 million capital-reserve fund for construction, reconstruction and improvements to district buildings. The district said the measure would not have an effect on taxes.
