Port Washington clothing drive

The fifth spring and summer clothing drive was held recently by the Port Washington School District’s Outreach Committee in collaboration with the Town of North Hempstead, St. Peter’s School, Chabad and the Parent Teacher and Home School Associations. Thousands of articles of clothing, as well as shoes and accessories were distributed from the lobby of Manorhaven Pool.

The logistics of promoting, collecting, sorting, displaying and distributing donated clothing from all over town was managed by more than 100 volunteers, representing every school and the community. Parents Council Co-Presidents JoAnn Sica and Paula Whitman worked with Regina Farinaccio, Director of Community Services to organize the effort. Additional support was provided by school district nurses and guidance counselors, Community Liaison Jennie Ramos and Guidance Director Hank Hardy. In addition, parents like Debbie Harari and Mary Cavallaro provide invaluable assistance based on their years of experience. Millie Rostolder came to help out with her daughter, Michelle Peretz, a Schreiber alumna with experience in retail sales, for the first time. “I really enjoyed folding the clothes and making nice displays for our customers,” Mrs. Rostolder said. “It was wonderful to see the high-quality donations that will be put to good use. This was a terrific program and I look forward to helping out again next year!”
