Commack High School was evacuated and "swept by security and administration in the presence of a police officer" Monday after a note was found in the girl's bathroom stating "CHS Prepare to Die," the schools superintendent said on the district's website.

"Although the note did not contain a specific threat, we believe that acting in the interest of safety must be our first priority," Superintendent James A. Feltman said in the community announcement posted on the website.

Feltman said "nothing unusual was found" in the sweep of the building.

A high school student discovered the note at about 1:15 p.m. and brought it to the attention of an assistant principal shortly before dismissal, Feltman said.

"Normal dismissal was held, but the police were called," Feltman said. "After arrival of the police, a fire alarm was sounded to evacuate the building."

The building was reopened to students and staff at 3 p.m.
