Deer Park school district
VOTING
7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Deer Park High School.
THE BUDGET
The district proposes a $107,636,445 budget for 2016-17, a 0.29 percent increase from the current $107,329,141.
The tax levy would rise by 0.95 percent, from $67,613,571 to $68,253,934.
This increase is equal to the district’s tax-cap limit, so a simple majority vote will be required to approve the budget. School taxes on the average single-family home would increase by 1.44 percent, from $10,069 to $10,214.
The budget funds a 2.25 average step increase for teachers, but no contractual increase. Additional state aid would allow all existing programs to remain in place and pay for an additional 2.925 full-time equivalent teaching positions, according to the district.
