Fire Island school district
VOTING
3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Woodhull School.
THE BUDGET
The district proposes a $6,272,107 budget for 2016-17, a 1.28 percent increase from the current $6,192,927. The local tax levy would rise by 0.86 percent, from $5,039,158 to $5,082,291.
The increase is below the district’s tax-cap limit of 1.54 percent, so a simple majority vote will be required to approve the budget.
The tax rate would stay the same as the current year: $22.96 per $100 assessed value in Brookhaven and $1.71 per $100 assessed value in Islip, according to the district.
The district said it does not have information about contractual or step increases for teachers because it is in negotiations with the teachers union. The proposed budget does not include any cuts in programs or services.
