THE BUDGET

The district proposes a $175,028,809 budget for 2017-18, a 2.87 percent increase over the current $170,138,538. The tax levy would decrease 0.09 percent, from $87,125,440 to $87,047,027.

This decrease is within the state’s tax-cap limit of 0.98 percent, so a simple majority will be required to approve the budget.

The amount of taxes paid on a single-family house would decrease 0.71 percent, from $7,013 to $6,963.

The proposed budget includes a 1.25 percent salary increase and a 0.85 percent step increase for teachers. It would add 10 teachers, six teaching assistants, one teacher aide and two athletic coaches.

A proposition would authorize creation of a $25 million capital reserve fund for facilities improvements, including classroom upgrades and renovations, and auditorium, gymnasium, cafeteria and other renovations.
