Glen Cove school district
VOTING
7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Connolly Elementary School and Glen Cove High School.
THE BUDGET
The district is proposing a $83,705,760 budget for 2016-17, a 1.48 percent increase over the current $82,486,118.
The tax levy would decrease by 0.32 percent, from $66,104,265 to $65,891,895.
This decrease is equal to the district’s tax-cap limit of -0.32 percent, so a simple majority will be needed to approve the budget.
The district said it could not provide the dollar amount of school taxes on the average single-family home because final assessment figures were not available from the city of Glen Cove.
The proposed budget calls for a reduction of one teacher and four staff members, but maintains all existing programs and current class sizes. Potential increases in teacher salaries are subject to negotiations.
A proposition asks voters for approval to increase the number of students eligible for district bus transportation. The estimated $213,409 cost is included in the proposed budget and would not increase the tax levy, the district said.
