A water sensor malfunction at the Dix Hills Water District caused Half Hollow Hills schools to go remote on Wednesday and left much of the area without water.

A "pressure sensor that measures the depth of the water in the tanks malfunctioned," the water district said in a statement. That impacted the tank's ability to accurately communicate the water levels to the pumps.

In addition to shifting to remote learning due to the lack of water, the Half Hollow Hills Central School District also operated on a two-hour delay.
