Island Park school district
VOTING
7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Lincoln Orens Middle School.
THE BUDGET
The district proposes a $38,784,548 budget for 2016-17, a 0.31 percent decrease from the current $38,904,746. The tax levy would decrease by 0.18 percent, from $31,877,086 to $31,820,110.
This decrease is equal to the district’s tax-cap limit of -0.18 percent, so a simple majority vote will be required to approve the budget.
The district did not provide the dollar amount of school taxes on the average single-family house under the proposed budget because final assessment data was not available from Nassau County.
The proposed budget would add the equivalent of 2.5 teacher positions. Teachers would receive a 1.5 percent salary increase, but no step increase.
