Island Trees school district
VOTING
Noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Michael F. Stokes Elementary School.
THE BUDGET
The district proposes a $61,750,343 budget for 2016-17, a 1.58 percent increase from the current $60,790,427. The tax levy would rise by 0.26 percent, from $40,737,439 to $40,844,255.
This increase is equal to the district’s tax-cap limit, so a simple majority vote will be required to approve the budget.
School taxes on the average single-family home would rise by 0.27 percent, from $6,274 to $6,291.
The proposed budget includes a raise for teachers, but the district did not respond to questions about the amounts of contractual and/or step salary increases. It funds new STEM initiatives at the district’s elementary and middle schools and additional Advanced Placement courses.
