The Jericho school board Tuesday evening approved the retirements of the district’s three assistant superintendents during its final meeting of the school year.

David Cohen, the district's assistant superintendent for educational operations and human resources, retired Tuesday. Victor Manuel, assistant superintendent for business affairs, and Ivy Sherman, assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction, will retire on June 30, 2027, according to meeting documents.

"I enjoy working with all three of you," Superintendent Robert Kravitz said ahead of the board's vote. To Cohen, he said, "Dave, I wish you the best. Play a lot of golf." To Manuel and Sherman, he added, "I look forward to continue working with you."

The board approved the trio of retirements by a vote of 4 to 0. The board's fifth member, Dr. Divya Balachandar, was absent from the meeting.

Cohen and Sherman declined to comment when reached by Newsday before the meeting. Manuel declined to comment when approached by a Newsday reporter afterward. Other members of the school board did not respond to requests for comment.

Minutes before casting the vote during her final school board meeting, outgoing member Jill Citron thanked all three members for their "commitment and hard work and dedication to the staff and students."

"You really touched so many people here and made a special, lasting mark," Citron added.

Cohen, 57, is retiring after seven years with the district. He earned $251,870 during the 2024-25 academic year, according to a Newsday database of educator salaries.

Manuel, 56, earned $296,257 in the same year, while Sherman, 66, made $284,513.40. Manuel was hired in 2011, and Sherman began with the district in 2013, according to meeting documents.

News of the resignations comes at the tail end of Kravitz’s first year as superintendent. He replaced longtime leader Hank Grishman, who retired in 2025 after 30 years at the helm.

Jericho enrolled about 3,200 students this academic year, Newsday previously reported.
