Students at Division Avenue High School in Levittown were temporarily held in place Tuesday afternoon after one of them was found in possession of a BB gun, Principal John Coscia wrote in a message to parents.

Nassau County police, as well as the district's director of security, were called to the school after a report of a yet unidentified student with a weapon, Coscia wrote.

After an investigation by Nassau police, the weapon was determined to be a BB gun and officials “addressed it in accordance with our safety procedures and the law. All students are safe,” police said.

It was not clear if the student was charged or disciplined.
