Mattituck-Cutchogue School District technology questionnaire
These are the replies from some districts to the Newsday questionnaire regarding the use of new technologies in their classrooms.
Some of the answers are elaborate, and have not been edited or reduced. Some districts did not answer the questions directly.
Over the past three years, we have implemented Smart Boards in both our Elementary and Jr. Sr. HS. This past summer, we created two Apple Labs in our Jr. Sr. HS which are being your for video editing, tv studio broadcasting, film production. This year we are piloting e-Instruction clickers, and the use of ipods in the ESL classrooms. Additionally, this year we implemented Nutrikids -a cafeteria POS system which integrates with an online tracking system where parents can depot money for their students as well as monitor what they are eating.
We are also using a curriculum mapping program that was started as a pilot in the district two years ago, we now are using this program across all grade levels in the district. Teachers have the ability to map their curriculum using this program. Using Atlas, curricular information can be assembled and used by curriculum decision makers to: Determine what is taught, as it actually occurs in the classroom. Understand how students are being taught. Make appropriate, immediate modifications to the curriculum. Determine "why" certain performance results have been achieved.
2. Please tell us about any major innovations you are planning to introduce within the next year. For example, iPads for fifth-graders.
At this time it is difficult to predict, as you are aware school budgets are becoming more and more limited and this will impact what new initiatives we will able to address with limited funds.
