Mineola
VOTING
6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Jackson Avenue and Meadow Drive schools.
THE BUDGET
The district proposes a $94,444,259 budget for 2017-18, a 3.54 percent increase from the current $91,214,512. The tax levy would increase 0.89 percent, from $78,843,160 to $79,543,950. The increase is equal to the district’s tax-cap limit, so a simple majority will be required to approve the budget.
The dollar amount of the school tax paid on the average single-family house would increase 0.8 percent, from $6,656 to $6,709.
The proposed budget includes an average 1.1 percent step increase and estimated salary increases for teachers, subject to negotiations.
A proposition would authorize spending $4.2 million from a capital reserve fund to create an art, music and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) wing at the Meadow Drive School and a second gym at the high school with a second-floor workout area.
