North Bellmore school district
VOTING
6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Newbridge Road Elementary School.
THE BUDGET
The district is proposing a budget of $53,742,934 for the 2016-17 school year, a 0.82 percent increase over the current $53,303,507. The tax levy would rise by 0.43 percent, from $36,064,994 to $36,221,022.
This increase is equal to the district’s tax-cap limit, so a simple majority vote will be required to approve the budget.
School taxes paid on an average single-family home would rise by 0.43 percent, from $3,946 to $3,963.
The proposed budget includes an average 1.7 percent step increase for teachers, but no annual raise. Current staffing and programs would be maintained.
