THE BUDGET

The district proposes a $83,286,346 budget for 2017-18, a 3.3 percent increase from the current $80,623,643. The tax levy would rise by 3.21 percent, from $48,084,714 to $49,629,259.

This increase is equal to the district’s tax-cap limit, so a simple majority is required to approve the budget.

School taxes on an average single-family home would increase by 3.21 percent, from $7,268.79 to $7,502.28.

The proposed budget includes a 1 percent increase in salaries and a step increase of 2.7 percent for teachers. The budget would add 2.6 teachers and four teaching assistants.

A proposition asks voters for authorization to spend $3,385,965 that has been set aside in the capital reserve fund for things such as high school parking, security cameras, music rooms renovation, middle school sealing and artificial turf.

Incumbent Sean Callahan and candidate Joe Coniglione are running unopposed for two at-large seats. Terms are three years.
