VOTING

7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Seaford Harbor School and Seaford Manor School.

THE BUDGET

The district proposes a $65,310,448 budget for 2016-17, a 2.63 percent increase from the current $63,637,843. The tax levy would increase by 1.23 percent, from $48,656,415 to $49,256,116.

The increase is equal to the district’s tax-cap limit, so a simple majority vote will be required to approve the budget.

School taxes on the average single-family home could not be calculated because the amount is “subject to Nassau County and New York State determination,” according to the district.

The proposed budget would fund a contractual increase of 1 percent, and an average step increase of 2 percent for teachers beginning Feb. 1. It does not include any cuts in staff, programs or services.
