Southold school district
VOTING
3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Southold High School.
THE BUDGET
The district is proposing a $29,008,500 budget for 2016-17, a 0.48 percent decrease from the current $29,148,995. The tax levy would rise by 0.67 percent, from $25,432,694 to $25,604,343.
This increase is within the state’s tax cap of 0.69 percent, so a simple majority is required to approve the budget.
School taxes on an average single-family home would increase by 0.67 percent, from $5,390 to $5,426.
The proposed budget includes a contract increase of 0.75 percent, and a half-step increase of approximately 1.7 percent for teachers. The district is not replacing two teachers who are retiring.
