West Islip school district
VOTING
7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday at West Islip High School.
THE BUDGET
The district has proposed a $120,529,829 budget for 2016-17, a 2.36 percent increase from the current $117,750,846. The tax levy would increase by 0.35 percent, from $80,446,692 to $80,729,475.
This increase is equal to the district’s tax-cap limit, so a simple majority vote will be required to approve the budget.
School taxes on the average single-family home would increase by 0.35 percent, from $8,197 to $8,226.
The proposed budget includes salary estimates subject to negotiations. The district would reinstate a nine-period day in the middle school and would add an additional seven positions to do so.
