Bicyclist dies after being hit by car in Freeport, Nassau police say
An unidentified male bicyclist crossing Sunrise Highway in Freeport Saturday night died after a car traveling eastbound struck him, Nassau County police said.
The bicyclist sustained multiple trauma and was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.
The 88-year-old driver of the 2013 Lincoln MKZ that hit the bicyclist was not injured, police said.
A brake and safety check was performed at the scene, and the vehicle was released to the owner, who had it towed.
The accident was determined to be noncriminal although an investigation is continuing, police said.
