The National Weather Service is calling for a slight chance of flurries with temperatures hovering around the freezing point tonight, before giving way to slightly warmer temperatures tomorrow.

Expect temperatures in the high 30s and low 40s on Thursday, forecasters said.

Earlier the Weather Service issued a special weather statement warning drivers that icy roads and dangerous driving conditions are likely - advising them to "exercise extreme caution and drive extra-slowly this morning."

There were a handful of early-morning accidents Wednesday, though it was not immediately clear what role, if any, road conditions played in those crashes, none of which caused serious injuries.

The most dramatic accident, police said, appears to be one involving an overturned car on the Southern State Parkway. That crash occurred at 6:21 a.m., according to the New York State Department of Transportation, and closed two eastbound lanes between Exit 20, Grand Avenue, and Exit 21, Nassau Road, in Roosevelt.

State Police were not immediately available to confirm details of the crash, although the state DOT's INFORM system traffic cameras showed emergency personnel on scene at 6:45 a.m.
