Queens man charged in bank robberies in Rockville Centre and Hicksville
A Jamaica, Queens, man has been charged with two Nassau County bank robberies that took place two days apart in June, Nassau County police said.
Police said Cyrus Morris, 43, was charged with two counts of third-degree robbery after being arrested on Friday morning at the Brooklyn House of Detention on an unrelated charge.
Police said Morris robbed the Chase Bank at 10 North Village Ave., Rockville Centre, on June 27 at 2:32 p.m. In that robbery, police said he handed a teller a note demanding cash and said he would use his gun, though none was seen. He then fled and was last seen heading north on North Village Avenue toward Sunrise Highway.
Two days later, police said Morris robbed another Chase Bank, this time in Hicksville. Police said Morris entered the bank at 284 North Broadway at 5:44 p.m. on June 29, approached a teller window and again produced a demand note. He also threatened to use a gun, police said. The teller complied, and Morris fled, police said.
Morris, of 106-05 159th St. in Jamaica, was arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Friday. Court records show Morris was returned on a warrant that was ordered Sept. 25, and was held in lieu of $250,000 cash bail or $500,000 bond for each charge.
